Information about preserved pittosporum
What is pittosporum?
Pittosporum, is a genus of shrubs and trees in the family Pittosporaceae. Native to the temperate and subtropical regions of the Southern Hemisphere, it is characterised by its leathery and glossy leaves, which can be green, variegated or even purple. The flowers, small and fragrant, are borne in racemes or cymes and give rise to capsular fruits containing sticky seeds.
In the preserved version, the leaves are subjected to a preservation process. These leaves are treated with glycerine and other products to maintain their shape, colour and texture, making them ideal for floral arrangements and long-lasting decorations. It maintains a fresh and green appearance for a long time and retains the characteristic texture and colour of Pittosporum leaves.
It is used in permanent floral arrangements, interior decoration and design projects where long-lasting, maintenance-free foliage is required.

Durability of Pittosporum
A cut Pittosporum can last several weeks in fresh water if changed regularly, or a few days in a floral arrangement if the water is not applied directly to the leaves. In both situations, keeping it in a cool environment and spraying the leaves with water can extend the shelf life. This is ideal in some situations, but in others a longer shelf life is required.
When properly stored, it can be kept indefinitely as part of dried arrangements, provided it is stored in a dry, protected location. The exact shelf life will depend on care and environmental conditions, but Pittosporum offers a versatile and decorative option both fresh and dried.
How do I keep preserved Pittosporum in good condition?
- Avoid any action that may crush, press or bend foliage, petals and flowers.
- Avoid direct or indirect exposure to sunlight.
- Avoid the presence of intense sources of indirect light, including those behind glass or similar surfaces.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to environments with humidity levels above 50%.
- Avoid continuous exposure to temperatures exceeding 30°C.
- The use of these elements is recommended for indoor use only.

Production and preservation process
- Selection and Preparation: We carefully select Pittosporum stems to ensure they are in optimal condition.
- Preservative treatment: The preservative and colorant (50% glycerin + water + colorants) are applied by the absorption method, immersing the lower part of the stems in the liquid. After 24 to 36 hours, when the preservative has been totally absorbed, the product can pass to the next phase.
- Drying: The product passes to the drying station with a higher temperature and a lower percentage of ambient humidity where it will remain for 24 to 48 hours.
- Inspection and packaging: Finally, we remove damaged and wilted leaves and select only the best, healthiest and most attractive stems, and carefully pack it to protect it during transportation and storage.
