What is Salal?
Preserved Salal stems retain the appearance and texture of the fresh plant through a preservation process that replaces the natural sap with a special solution. This allows the leaves to retain their original rich color and texture without the need for irrigation or sunlight, and can be dyed to change color. The stems are flexible and durable, ideal for floral arrangements and decorations, offering a low maintenance option that keeps the plant looking fresh for a long time.
The leaves of the fresh plant are dark green on top and lighter green and rougher on the underside. They are 5 to 10 inches long and have finely serrated edges. This shrub can grow up to 2 meters high and 1.5 meters wide. It adapts well to shady areas and soils ranging from dry to moist. In spring and summer, it produces small white to pink flowers that attract hummingbirds and other pollinators.

In general, preserved salal retains its original appearance and color for at least 2 to 3 years, and in some cases it can last even longer.
How to maintain the preserved salal?
- Avoid any action that may crush, press or bend foliage, petals and flowers.
- Avoid direct or indirect exposure to sunlight.
- Avoid the presence of intense sources of indirect light, including those behind glass or similar surfaces.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to environments with humidity levels above 50%.
- Avoid continuous exposure to temperatures exceeding 30°C.
- The use of these elements is recommended for indoor use only.

How we ensure the quality of our salal
Production and preservation process
- Selection and Preparation: We carefully select the salal stems to ensure they are in optimal condition.
- Preservative treatment: The preservative and colorant (50% glycerin + water + colorants) are applied by the absorption method, immersing the lower part of the stems in the liquid. After 24 to 36 hours, when the preservative has been totally absorbed, the product can pass to the next phase.
- Drying: The product passes to the drying station with a higher temperature and a lower percentage of ambient humidity where it will remain for 24 to 48 hours.
- Inspection and packaging: Finally, we remove damaged and wilted leaves and select only the best, healthiest and most attractive stems, and carefully pack it to protect it during transportation and storage.

In addition, the plants are carefully packed to avoid damage during transport and we use packaging materials that protect the plants from moisture and shocks.
